Kayvan Khiabani, M.D.
1965 - 2017

Kayvan Taghipour Khiabani, MD, passed away April 18, 2017. He was born Sept. 7, 1965, in Tehran, Iran, and immigrated to Canada as a teenager, where he completed his undergraduate degree in medicine at McGill University. There, he met his wife and soulmate, Katy Barin, with whom he would happily spend the next 26 years of his life. Their loving union resulted in the births of his two sons, Aria and Keon, whose many achievements and successes afforded Kayvan no greater pleasure in life. To his friends and family, Kayvan was one of a kind. He forged countless friendships and was a mentor to many. He lived life to the fullest, was an aficionado of the opera and classical music and enjoyed smoking fine cigars, traveling, watching movies, cycling and practicing yoga. To others in the Nevada community, Kayvan was best known as Dr. Khiabani, a passionate reconstructive plastic surgeon who used his intellect and steady hands to heal his patients. He completed his residency in plastic surgery at McGill University and a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at UCLA and the University of Nevada, Reno. He was board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery in both the United States and Canada, and had an extensive research background in reconstructive and microsurgery with a Masterís of Science degree in experimental surgery. He was a member of many prestigious surgical societies, and was actively involved in teaching many continuing medical education courses in reconstructive and hand surgery. During his 51 years on this Earth, Dr. Khiabani saved countless lives and touched many more hearts. His untimely death occurred while pursuing his passion for cycling. He is survived by his devoted wife, Katy, while his spirit, strength of character and generosity forever lives on in the lives of his sons, Aria and Keon.
